The Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme (MIAS) is the industry-standard qualification for mountain bike instructors in the UK & Europe. Recognised by employers, outdoor centres, and activity providers nationwide, the MIAS qualification opens doors to a rewarding career in mountain biking.

Junior/Assistant Leader Award

Cycle FIT Maintenance Course

Military Personnel & SLC Funding
Gethin MTB is an approved SLC provider. Serving and former military personnel from the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force can claim up to £175 towards the cost of the MIAS Instructor Award through Standard Learning Credits.

You should be a competent mountain biker comfortable riding red-graded trails. The course focuses on developing your instruction and leadership skills, so a solid foundation of riding ability is essential. If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll advise.
We ride in all weathers! Mountain biking is an outdoor sport and the course prepares you for real-world instruction. We'll only cancel in genuinely dangerous conditions (e.g., severe storms), in which case we'll reschedule at no extra cost.
A mountain bike in good working condition (we can provide one if needed), helmet, appropriate riding clothing, waterproofs, spare inner tube, water, and snacks. We'll send a detailed kit list upon booking.
Contact your Education Staff to obtain an SLC Claim Form. Complete the form with the course details we provide and submit it for approval before booking. We'll guide you through the entire process.
Absolutely! We encourage you to use your own bike as you'll be most comfortable on it. If you don't have a suitable mountain bike, we can provide a Scott Scale for the duration of the course.
All courses are based from Pontiscill Village Hall near Merthyr Tydfil, with trail access to the Brecon Beacons, Bike Park Wales, and surrounding areas. The exact trails used depend on the course level and conditions.
